Preparation and
smart packing are essential to keeping your stored possessions
in good shape while helping you maximize space in your storage
room. |
|
Choose
the right amount of storage space you will need to store your
items. |
|
Use
all the space available, including height. |
|
Leave
a walkway in your space for easy access. |
|
Drain
gasoline and oil from lawn mowers and other items with small
engines. |
|
Don't
place boxes directly on concrete floors, use pallets or boards
to prevent moisture absorption. |
|
Pack
books flat to protect their spines. |
|
Place
frequently used items near door. |
|
Label
your boxes and take home a list of the labeled boxes for easy
reference when you need to locate your goods. |
|
Heavy
items like books or tools should be packed in small boxes so
they are easy to lift. |
|
Protect
your fragile goods with packing (i.e., bubble-pack or other)
and place them near the top of your storage space. |
|
Clothing,
curtains, and drapes should be stored on hangers. |
|
Dishes
and glassware should be individually wrapped. |
|
A
refrigerator or freezer should be dry and stored with the door
slightly open, use the space inside for additional storage.
|
|
Retard rust on bicycles and other metal items by wiping all
metal surfaces with a rag containing a few drops of machine
oil. |
